Panel data on linguistic measures of cities’ flood risk adaptation extracted from financial disclosures of 431 US cities.

To compute our measures, we create and validate a dictionary that is specifically designed to capture city-specific hard and soft adaptation strategies for flood risk. Hard adaptation includes building physical infrastructure and upgrading existing infrastructure, such as seawalls and drainage systems. Soft adaptation involves using natural solutions, such as beach nourishment and mangrove restoration, to decrease flood risk.

The data spans 2013-2020.

This data was collected for the paper “Financial constraints and short-term planning are linked to flood risk adaptation gaps in US cities” with Shirley Lu.

Panel data on shareholder-empowering corporate governance regulations (SEGR) index that captures regulations providing minority shareholders with the ability to engage with managers and boards. SEGR captures (1) the transparency of firm-level governance processes, (2) the ability of minority shareholders to initiate and influence general meeting agendas, and (3) the structure and membership of boards.

The data is based on a detailed examination of each country’s legal rules and regulations spanning 2010-2018.

This data was collected for the paper "Importing activists: Determinants and consequences of increased cross-border shareholder activism" with Mark Maffett and Douglas J. Skinner, published in the Journal of Accounting and Economics in 2022.
